Sneham is the social service wing of Shelter Ministries. One of the major outcomes of Christianity right from the birth of it has been its helping hands. In Luke 21: 3, 4 Jesus said “I tell you the truth, this widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on”. We see that God does not look at the amount of money but that heart that gives it even in hardship. The bible clearly says that even a glass of water given for the name of our Lord will never be forgotten but will be blessed.
Out of perfect coincidence just like the widow in Luke 21 we too have five widows from our church who have been raising funds for Sneham. They are not rich women but they still have the flair for God’s work and a belief that a helping hand is just as equal to a praying lip. They usually sell a lot of home made products and other items collected from the locality this includes
- Tea, cool drinks and snacks for every church special function
- Home made washing powders
- Pickles
- Mangoes
- Coconuts
- Eggs
All this money is collected and put for savings in the local post office. After a year the money along with the interest is collected and spent for a carefully surveyed social project in the local community. We have now decided to spend that money for our beloved oppressed brothers and sisters in Orissa. In the year 2009 alone we have raised over 65,000 rupees. Our ultimate aim is not social service but to harvest those souls which have been touched by our helping hands, for the kingdom of God. It is better to give a man the eternal life than just a day’s meal. Hence with the process of selling and buying new contacts are also brought to the church. Please pray that these works might be blessed and we can extend our help to many needy people of this nation.
